If a woman wants to “terminate her pregnancy,” it’s completely her choice. It’s nobody’s business what she decides about this, because it’s her body. Period. No exceptions. That’s the dogma of the modern feminist world. Right?

But everything suddenly changes when the mother is using abortion in order to kill a baby because she wants the other sex instead. In fact, it’s illegal in many places, including Great Britain, where a newspaper claimed recently that the practice is widespread in abortion clinics after it sent undercover reporters into clinics.

Is there any way to reconcile these startling inconsistencies? We’re told that abortion isn’t killing a baby. It’s not really murder, they say. But if a woman wants a son instead of a daughter — and she makes her choice to kill the baby daughter — those same activists tell us she’s done something monstrous. Why?

There’s certainly no logical reason for this inconsistency. If the fetus is a simple mass of tissue with no moral consequences, then a woman should reasonably be able to cut it out and destroy it for whatever her reasons are. After all, we’re told that it’s of no consequence that it’s going to be a living, breathing baby on its own soon. However, if there is an actual female child whose life needs to be saved, the sex doesn’t matter.

In other words, if you have a tumor cut off of your body, nobody asks whether it was a boy or girl tumor. The question itself is nonsensical. But if you can determine that something is a boy or a girl, it’s a baby. Killing either is killing a baby. Why aren’t they equal in the eyes of the feminists who decry sex-selection abortions?

The editor of the Canadian Medical Association Journal wrote earlier this month that the phrase, “It’s a girl,” just might be a death sentence for some children in North America, especially in ethnic groups which have migrated from Asia. But how can it be a “death sentence” if it’s never really a life in the first place? That’s a contradiction that’s left unanswered.

In Britain, the government has followed up on the Telegraph’s investigation into abortion clinics and confirmed there are widespread problems with falsification of consent forms as well as sex selection and other issues. The government claims that one in five abortion clinics is violating the law in some way.

I just want to know why it matters. If it’s not a baby with a real life that deserves to be protected, it’s nobody’s business whether the “lump of tissue” is XX or XY. But if those girl babies need to be rescued from a death sentence, the boy babies need to be rescued, too. You can’t have it both ways.

Let’s see if I have this straight.
