On the right is\u00a04-year-old Abigail Krutsinger, who had the audacity to set up a table selling her own lemonade for 25 cents a cup<\/a>. \u00a0She was caught red-handed with the merchandise and various lemonade paraphenalia. The police officer who came to shut Abigail down told her that a permit would cost $400 — far more than the $4 she had made.<\/p>\n

I’ve covered this very recently<\/a>, so I’m not going to belabor the point. Government agencies extort money from people who want to engage in voluntary transactions with other. It’s no different from the Mob demanding protection money.<\/p>\n

Take the time to watch the complete interview with Abigail and her father<\/a>, which is about six minutes long. Dustin Krutsinger seems to go to great lengths not to blame anyone. He thinks that it’s going “too far” when you won’t let kids sell lemonade at such a cheap price, but I’d like to know what the person’s age or price should have to do with it. Why should anyone need a license to engage in a voluntary transaction with someone else?<\/p>\n

By the way, the city played its role as expected, claiming that protecting public safety was behind the ordinance requiring the $400 license.<\/p>\n
