For a few weeks now, I\u2019ve been thinking a lot about some simple questions.<\/p>\n

What does it mean to waste your life?<\/em><\/p>\n

And if you discover you really are wasting your life, what do you do about it?<\/em><\/p>\n

I\u2019ve known that I wanted to talk about this for awhile \u2014 ever since I saw an odd exhortation on a church sign near my house. It said, \u201cPlease don\u2019t waste your life.\u201d<\/em> I didn\u2019t disagree with the sentiments of the sign \u2014 although I\u2019m unclear what their context was \u2014 but I started thinking about how few people even realize their lives are wasted until it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n

That led me to thinking about my own life \u2014 and how my thoughts about a life worth living have changed over the years. But I wasn\u2019t really ready to talk about it until I passed a house near my office Monday afternoon and saw a front yard with two two adult-size chairs and one child-size chair.<\/p>\n

Then I knew how I wanted to conclude this. Maybe it won\u2019t apply to you, but it feels true for me.<\/p>\n
