\"\"<\/a>So far, the end of the world is looking just like any other day of my life. But surely Harold Camping is going to come through for us with the apocalypse he promised us for today<\/a>. Right?<\/p>\n

Well, no. He’s not, because Camping has no idea what he’s talking about. He’s just another arrogant man who believes he’s smart enough to speak for God. History is littered with them, even if their excuses for being wrong change with the times.<\/p>\n

If you’re an atheist or an adherent of another religion, you might think Camping’s failed prediction says something about Christianity, since Camping claims to be a Christian. In reality, though, it says the man can’t read the book he claims to believe. When Jesus spoke of the end of the world, He had this to say in Mark 13:32-37<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“But concerning that day or that hour,\u00a0no one knows, not even the angels in heaven,\u00a0nor the Son,\u00a0but only the Father.\u00a0Be on guard,\u00a0keep awake.\u00a0For you do not know when the time will come.\u00a0It is like a man\u00a0going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants\u00a0in charge,\u00a0each with his work, and commands\u00a0the doorkeeper to stay awake.\u00a0Therefore stay awake\u2014for you do not know when the master of the house will come,\u00a0in the evening, or\u00a0at midnight, or\u00a0when the rooster crows,\u00a0or\u00a0in the morning\u2014lest\u00a0he come suddenly and\u00a0find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all:\u00a0Stay awake.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Of course, Camping is probably really lucky that we don’t keep Old Testament law these days. Here’s what Deuteronomy 18:20<\/a>\u00a0says God says about false prophets:<\/p>\n

“But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.”<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So it’s not just non-believers who find Camping laughable and distasteful. Those of us who are Christians find him a disturbing example of a man trying to speak for God without knowing what he’s talking about.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
