I’d never been around cats or dogs from the same litter over the long term, so I had no idea just how different they could be from one another, even though they shared the same genes and same environment. Watching Charlotte, Emily and Anne grow up for the past couple of years has been an education for me in just how different they can be. I guess it’s no surprise considering how different human brothers and sisters can be.
I’ve already written about Charlotte and Anne, so you can read about them and compare if you’d like, but the biggest difference is that Emily is the friendly one who wants attention and closeness. In fact, there’s pretty much no place she’ll sleep each night than right on top of me. (On the right you’ll see an example when I woke up to find her wedged between the pillow and my shoulder, but she’s generally right on my stomach, back or side, depending on how I’m sleeping.)
Emily is also the most photogenic of the cats I have. I think she’s a gorgeous little girl. Don’t tell the others, but I think she’s the best looking one of the bunch.
Unlike her sister, Charlotte, she’s not the most confident cat in the world. She can easily be spooked by noises or new situations. But she’s the most willing of the litter to be picked up and held. In the morning, in fact, she demands attention — getting right in my face and purring to let me know she’s ready to have her neck rubbed.
You’d think that a cat sleeping on top of you would be a problem, but she only weighs 5.5 pounds. Honestly, there are sometimes when I wake up and can’t even tell whether she’s there, at least until I try to move and she tries to adjust herself to stay on top.
She’s a sweet and beautiful little girl. I tried hard to find suitable homes for her and for her sisters when they were kittens. After two years with her, though, I’m not sure what I’d do without her purring herself to sleep on my back.
