Since this site launched on May 13, we’ve now had visitors from 138 countries, which truly astounds me. I compiled a few stats about where everybody’s coming from and what they’re using to get here.
The 10 countries that are most heavily represented have been the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, Germany, Italy, Spain, India, Finland and New Zealand. Just as an example, this is a map of the cities in the UK that have sent visitors.
The 10 most active U.S. states are Texas, California, New York, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Washington. On the flip side the states with the fewest visits have been Vermont, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, Hawaii, Delaware, Alaska, Montana, Idaho and Rhode Island.
Windows is the most common operating system, of course, with 73.56 percent of you using the dominant computer platform. (That was lower than what I expected.) The Macintosh gets 14.09 percent of you here. The real surprise is how great a percentage are using mobile devices to read the site. 3.8 percent of my visitors are using iPhones, 2.75 percent are using iPads and 2.73 percent are using Android devices of some kind. Overall, there were 20 different operating systems represented, including gaming platforms and a couple of things I’d never heard of.
For those of us who remember when Internet Explorer had more than 90 percent of the browser market, the browser numbers are interesting. Firefox led the way with 32.82 percent, IE was next with 31.67 percent, Chrome was third with 15.17 and Safari was fourth with 13.58 percent, so there’s a lot of diversity among the browsers people are using to get here.
