Barbarians with evil ideas taking our entire culture off deadly cliff

By David McElroy · May 26, 2021

Barbarians have taken over control of American institutions. These reckless idiots and looters are systematically destroying the best that Western Civilization once had to offer. If you don’t understand what they’re really doing, they will gain your willing cooperation — and they will destroy you.

The barbarians go by different names. Some are openly communist. Some call themselves Marxists or socialists. Some claim to be “anti-fascists” or “anti-racists.” The more mainstream ones prefer “Democratic Socialists” as a label.

But they’re all alike at the core. They want to destroy everything that’s decent which remains about America and about the West — and they claim that you are a hateful racist, sexist and evil person if you don’t join their deadly cause. You must either join them or they will “re-educate” you until you learn to believe what they demand.

It’s too late to stop the barbarians. They’ve come too far. This culture was already tottering under the weight of what arrogant politicians have done for at least a century. The politicians’ economic and legal mistakes have slowly stripped us of our freedoms — and now the barbarians are stepping into this weakened society and taking over from the inside out.

I am willing to call these barbarians what they are — and I will escape from the evil they represent.

If the rest of the world wants to go insane —  and if you want to march lockstep off this cliff of dysfunction with them — it’s not up to me to stop that. I couldn’t stop it even if I devoted my life to it.

All I ask is that there remains some small place of refuge for those of us who refuse to go over that cliff. The future of individual freedom is going to belong to those who are willing to find or build some place of safety — because the land of my birth is not going to be that place for the foreseeable future.

Just how much progress have the barbarians made? You tell me.

In the dysfunctional and Orwellian culture of 2021, “diversity” means you must agree with one narrow point of view and “inclusion” means the exclusion of people who hold political or social beliefs which have been deemed unacceptable by these progressive left elites.

We’ve reached the point that the barbarians are now spared the effort of making an intellectual case for their accusations. Instead of explaining why someone is wrong and why they disagree with an idea, all they have to do is scream that someone is a racist or a misogynist. That’s far easier than rational thinking — and you and I are silenced for all practical purposes by this dishonesty.

Ideas have been forced on us that are dangerous and intellectually vapid. For instance, the intellectual idea that sex and gender are very different things — and that gender is a matter of personal decision — is one of the most pernicious ideas to be foisted on the world in the past 50 years. This delusion is doing long-term damage to real human beings, but if you question this idea, they will say that you “hate” certain confused and hurting people.

More and more, postmodern leftist ideology is merging with the coercive political state to create a civic religion which allows no other gods to challenge its control. The irony is that many of its fiercest adherents claim to hate religion — even as they demand that all people worship their own god.

Some parts of popular media are working overtime to destroy any traditional values which “old-fashioned moralists” might still hold about family structures or healthy relationships. Here’s a collection of random recent headlines I’ve run across:

“Real Couples Discuss How Non-Monogamy Benefits Their Relationships”

“Best Affairs Sites to Find Affair Partners In Your Area”

“Despite the negative stigma, polyamorous relationships are more common than we think”

“Did the Pandemic Signal the End of Monogamy As We Know It?”

“21 Tips for Opening Up Your Relationship”

(“Opening up your relationship” means bringing in one or more additional sexual partners in some combination.)

A few days ago, the Associated Press reported this: “Singer Demi Lovato revealed on Wednesday they identify as nonbinary and are changing their pronouns, telling fans the decision came after ‘self-reflective work.’”

Demi Lovato is a woman. The fact that our society has normalized pretending otherwise is insane. And why is the AP willing to destroy English grammar in its effort to join the delusion?

Is there any moral or ethical value remaining which the trendy leftist media sees as worthy of upholding? I mean other than attacking people with the “wrong” social or political views?

The academic journal called Nature is calling on science to change by becoming more political — all in the name of “fighting systemic racism.” We used to make fun of the way science in the Soviet bloc had to reflect the Communist Party’s ideology, but it’s becoming the same here.

Modern life resembles a carnival freak show more and more every day, especially in the cess pools known as social media.

The “facts” which people believe in modern culture are determined far more by ideology than by empirical evidence and reason. The unspoken mantra — across much of the political spectrum — is, “I already know what I believe, so don’t bother me with facts to the contrary.”

And something which is terrifying about this is that the rational and principled people on the moderate right — those who used to be conservatives — have mostly joined the personality cult of a delusional, narcissistic liar. Donald Trump has never been a conservative. He’s never had any consistent principles. But most of the people who should be opposing the barbarians have joined forces to support this insane man.

The remaining Trump support among populists (who often falsely call themselves conservatives) is baffling. Most of the people who loudly claim to love this liar claim they have traditional values which are radically different from what Trump has repeatedly demonstrated in his own life.

This makes absolutely no sense.

My progressive left friends mostly seem to think the ills of the world can be attributed to Donald Trump and Co. My populist friends (and some of the conservatives) think all the world’s evils started with Barrack Obama or Joe Biden. They’re all incredibly shortsighted.

The real evil which we facing today started more than a hundred years ago — in socialism, progressivism, fascism and other barbaric ideas which have killed millions and millions of people when they’ve been tried.

The political right has gone crazy by accepting populists and racists in the mad rush to follow Trump. The left has gone crazy — and turned into raving lunatics — by forgetting how to be rational and how to interpret cold, hard data. I’m thankful that I’m part of neither side.

Although there’s a lot in Ayn Rand’s core philosophy which I disagree with, I think her depiction of life in the United States (in “Atlas Shrugged”) during a time of widespread incompetence and corruption was brilliant and prescient. I see more of what she described every day.

The difference is that the great men who Rand imagined would rise up to overthrow the barbarians don’t really exist. Many of the decent people have thrown in their lot with the barbarians, because that seems the pragmatic thing to do. Others have simply been cowed into silence. And still others are angry and hurting but don’t really understand quite what has happened.

This society is heading toward political, economic and social collapse. There’s nobody coming to save us. It’s delusional to think there will be a political hero who’s going to stop this.

When I first discovered the insane ideas that go by the name of “critical theory” (and the derivative “critical race theory”), I thought that few people would be stupid enough to buy such Marxist idiocy. Now that those ideas rule this dysfunctional culture, I see that I was wrong about that. I won’t underestimate the barbarians again.

For many years, a tiny group of people have been preaching social and economic nonsense and the vast majority have known their rantings as idiocy. But now more and more people have been brainwashed by the barbarian ravings — and many of the remaining rational people are terrified of pointing out the idiocy of these ideas.

Calling the barbarians out for what they are is one of the most urgent needs of the day. And even if we can’t stop them from taking a dying society over a cliff with them, we can figure out what’s next for ourselves.

There was a time when my focus was on saving this country. I’m way past that now. All I want is to join with others who are also trying to figure out their next steps. Together, we must find ways for some of us to escape the destruction that the barbarians are bringing with them.

I can’t accept anything less than an escape from where they’re taking us. I won’t go over that cliff with them. I hope you’ll join me in planning for an escape — and for a new future.

Briefly

We are ruled by the dumbest and most incompetent people among us — and we have a system which allows stupid and irresponsible people to force the costs of their idiocy onto smarter and wiser people. Can we get away with that? Yes, for quite some time. But we eventually reach a point at which the dumbest of the dumb — who are habitual liars and mentally ill fools — lead us to the disasters and destruction that some of us have seen coming for years. We are approaching that point. And yet most of the idiots around us still wave their rhetorical banners of support for the evil people who are leading us to ruin — and all of them point their fingers at someone else, never noticing that their own enthusiastic support of evil is to blame. When things finally fall apart, blame yourself for your blindness to the evil, not whoever happens to be in power when it happens.

I’ve been making some changes to the site lately and there are more changes coming in the days ahead, so don’t be surprised if you some small differences. This is not a wholesale redesign, but rather the addition of some features. Since they’re smarter than I am, I’ve put Oliver and Alex in charge of the technical work, which you can see in this action photo from the control room of our media complex. I recently added a series of landing pages for readers who randomly discover the site from an Internet search. I’ve also changed the YouTube link at the top of the page to go to the new YouTube channel for video essays that reflect things I’ve already published here. (Here’s a little bit about both of the YouTube channels I’m working on.) In addition, I’m trying to move away from using Instagram, so I’m experimenting with photo plug-ins that will eventually allow me to host the pictures — cats, dogs, sunsets, whatever — that I often take. So don’t be surprised to see more changes. Thanks for your patience. Let’s hope Alex and Oliver know what they’re doing.

I have no use for the theocratic and repressive government of Iran. The people who run the country are cruel at best and evil at worst. The Iranian people deserve freedom. But I have no personal quarrel with anybody in Iran. While I’m not thrilled about a future Iranian government having nuclear weapons, I’m just as concerned about nukes in the hands of politicians in Israel, Pakistan, India, China and Russia. I’m not even thrilled with the U.S., Britain and France having them, either, because I don’t trust any politicians to be responsible with such terrible weapons. All I can say with certainty is that American taxpayers have no business attacking Iran, especially since we’re being forced to pay for this attack in order to benefit the politicians of Israel — and nobody else. If Middle Eastern countries want to fight among themselves, that’s none of my business. It’s not the business of the U.S. government, either. I have no quarrel with anybody in Iran — and having the government which claims to represent me launch an unprovoked attack against a sovereign country will only make all Americans less safe in the near future. This attack is poorly conceived and morally unjustified. Remember that when the Iranians launch attacks that we will then condemn as “terrorism.” What the U.S. is doing right now looks like terrorism to me. And let’s not forget that the attack is the latest in a long line of unconstitutional wars by various U.S. presidents — who have no legal power to declare war on their own, according to the U.S. Constitution.

A child having a tantrum understands only one thing: Did I get my way or not? He doesn’t understand the issues involved. He doesn’t understand the reasons that went into a decision. He doesn’t understand any of the things that mature and reasonable adults have to understand in order to live healthy lives. By his reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling to strike down his disastrous tariff scheme, Donald Trump shows himself to be — once more — a screaming child having a tantrum. Outside the world of mob bosses who expect to get their way every time, normal adults don’t act this way, but Trump isn’t normal. He’s an angry and vengeful man who has narcissistic personality disorder. And we are in danger as a result. Trump doesn’t understand the legal issues involved in this ruling. He doesn’t understand economics. He doesn’t understand rule of law. He doesn’t understand that he can ever be wrong. All he understands is that he didn’t get his way. And he is now a narcissistic and raging little boy who also happens to hold life-and-death power over most humans on this planet. He’s dangerous — and the system which gives him that power is even more dangerous.

Is it an attempt to blur the gender line between men and women? Or is it some weird tribute to the traditional Scottish kilt? It’s hard to say, but fashion designers keep pushing for men to wear skirts in the last few years. Both men and women in modern fashion seem oddly androgynous, as though it would be offensive for a man to look manly or for a woman to look feminine. A CNN article about the latest fashions from Paris caught my attention Monday and left me wondering about the ugly clothes the designers are hawking. If a man wants to wear a skirt — or a kilt — that’s OK with me, but I’ll stick with a traditional dark suit with a white shirt and tie. (Well, when I’m not wearing t-shirts and sweats, of course.) I always wonder who actually buys the outlandish garb from fashion designers anyway. I would be humiliated to be seen in any of this stuff, but I obviously have no sense of high fashion.
